Features

DoliGenweb adds genealogy to Dolibarr: individuals, families, parentage, places, sources and life events, with trees, Sosa numbering, kinship calculation, statistics, migration maps, timeline, historical context and GEDCOM import/export. All data stays in your Dolibarr and follows its usual ergonomics (filterable lists, tabbed cards, notes, documents, complementary attributes, per-user rights).

The screenshots below were taken with a demonstration genealogy of the House of Bourbon (Louis XVI, Marie-Antoinette and their ancestors).

Module dashboard: counters and last modified records

Six genealogical objects

  • Individuals: given names, particle, surname, suffix, title, nickname, married name, sex, occupation (dictionary), photo, link to a Dolibarr contact.
  • Families: union between two individuals, of type Marriage, Union, Civil partnership or Free union, with date, place, dissolution date and witnesses.
  • Relationships: parent / child link (father or mother) and rank of the child among the siblings.
  • Places: town, postcode, department, country, type and GPS coordinates, with a Map tab.
  • Sources: records and documents (type, author, archive repository, call number, URL, text, attached files), cited on individuals, events and families with page, quality and transcription.
  • Sosa trees: working genealogy rooted on one individual (the de cujus), which enables Sosa-Stradonitz numbering.

Individual card

The card of an individual gathers their identity (with the name pieces: particle, suffix, title, nickname), parents, spouses, children, roles as witness or godparent and life events: birth, baptism, death, burial, marriage, occupation, residence, census, military service, will, emigration, naturalisation… Each event has a date, a place, source citations and a date accuracy (Exact, About, Before, After, Between, Unknown). Every field has a help tooltip.

Buttons directly create the father, the mother, a child or a spouse from the card, saving the link in a single step.

Tabs of the individual: Individual, Trees, Kinship, Statistics, Research, Migrations, Timeline, Consistency, Duplicates, Gallery, Sources, Historical events, plus Contacts, Notes, Documents and Agenda depending on the setup.

Family trees

  • Ancestors, descendants and hourglass modes (ancestors above, descendants below).
  • Boxes view, ancestor wheel or descendant fan.
  • Colour and display of the place of birth, marriage or death, filter on one place, or places hidden.
  • Tree generated as PDF, from A4 up to A0 for large prints.
  • PDF reports of the individual: Sosa ancestry, d'Aboville descendancy, family sheet and family book.

Kinship

The Kinship tab names the relationship between two individuals in the 5 languages (half-siblings, second cousins, generation offsets, in-laws), gives the civil-law degree, the closest common ancestors and the kinship paths.

Marie-Antoinette is the second cousin once removed of Louis XVI

Statistics and indexes

  • Statistics of the whole genealogy: counts and completion rates, ages at death, at first union and of parents at birth, births per century, children per couple, most frequent surnames, given names, places and occupations.
  • Statistics tab of the individual: ancestry completeness and pedigree collapse per generation.
  • Surname index and place index with letter bar and quick filter; each entry opens the genealogical search.
  • Genealogical search by surname, given names, spouse, parents, place and events, with wildcards and phonetic variants, also from the Dolibarr global search.

Research to do and consistency

  • Research tab: missing Sosa ancestors and missing records (birth, marriage, death) per generation, with the lead to follow; each research can become an agenda task linked to the individual.
  • Consistency checks: impossible or unlikely dates, ages of parents and spouses, duplicate or looping parentage, with adjustable thresholds.
  • Duplicates: detection of likely duplicates (phonetic surname, close given name, compatible dates, common parents or spouse), side-by-side comparison and merge.

Migrations and geolocated places

  • Migrations tab: places of birth of the Sosa ancestors on a map, animated generation by generation, with paternal or maternal branch filter, moves between generations and distances per generation.
  • Map tab of the place, and choice of the base map: OpenStreetMap, IGN map, Cassini map or État-major map.
  • Geocoding of one place, or of all places at once from the setup, with OpenStreetMap Nominatim.

Timeline and historical context

  • The Historical events tab imports from Wikidata and Wikipedia the events that occurred during the individual's life and the heads of state of the period, for France, Switzerland, Germany, the United Kingdom, Belgium, Italy and Spain.
  • The Timeline tab mixes, on a life bar and in a chronological table, the events of the individual, those of their close family and this historical context, with the age at each event.

Sources and citations

The Sources tab of the individual lists the citations of their events and unions. The card of a source shows the Cited by block and a Transcription tab where the image of the record is placed next to the text, with an optional transcription proposal by a local Ollama vision model.

Sharing with the family, anniversaries and contacts

  • Protection of the living individuals (GDPR): living individuals, or those born less than N years ago, are hidden from users without the Read the living individuals right; a button creates the group "Genealogy - Family (read only)".
  • Anniversaries and commemorations of the day and of the next 7 days on the home page and in the agenda.
  • Link with Dolibarr contacts and emailing selector of the family members.
  • Gallery of the individual with photo annotation and identification of people.

GEDCOM import and export

  • Import: drag and drop of the .ged file, upload in 512 KB chunks, progress bar, resume of an interrupted import and import history. The name pieces (GIVN, SPFX, SURN, NSFX, NPFX, NICK) and the title (TITL) are read; an option splits the particle written in the surname when the file has no SPFX tag (as with Heredis).
  • Export: GEDCOM 5.5.1 file in UTF-8, filterable by beginning of surname and by sex, with optional hiding of living individuals.
  • Sources, repositories and citations (SOUR, REPO, PAGE, QUAY), witnesses (ASSO, _WITN) and date accuracy (ABT, BEF, AFT, BET, FROM/TO) are exchanged too.

Calendar converter

The setup provides a date converter between the Gregorian, Julian, French Republican, Hebrew and Islamic calendars, with Julian day and Moon age, to transcribe old records.

Built-in user guide

A complete guide in French, English, German, Spanish and Italian can be read directly from the module setup, User guide tab, in the interface language.

Prerequisites

Dolibarr: supported versions:

  • 24.x

PHP: version 7.2 minimum, tested up to PHP 8.5.

PHP extension: calendar recommended (Republican, Hebrew and Islamic calendars of the converter).

Server Internet access: needed for the historical context (Wikidata, Wikipedia) and place geocoding (OpenStreetMap Nominatim). The rest of the module works offline.

⚙️ Installation procedure

⚙️ Method 1: installation from the Dolibarr interface

  1. Go to Home > Setup > Modules/Applications.
  2. Open the Deploy/install external app/module tab.
  3. Click Choose file and select the module .zip file.
  4. Click Upload file to start the installation.
  5. Enable the module once the installation is complete.

If Dolibarr rejects the file ("The file size is too large"), raise the MAIN_UPLOAD_DOC limit in Home > Setup > Security, Files tab, or the PHP settings upload_max_filesize and post_max_size, or use method 2.

⚙️ Method 2: manual installation on the server

The zip contains a htdocs/doligenweb/ folder; the doligenweb folder must end up in the Dolibarr custom directory.

  1. Unzip: unzip module_doligenweb-X.Y.Z.zip -d /tmp/doligenweb_zip
  2. Copy: cp -r /tmp/doligenweb_zip/htdocs/doligenweb /path/to/dolibarr/htdocs/custom/
  3. Grant rights to the web server if needed: chown -R www-data:www-data /path/to/dolibarr/htdocs/custom/doligenweb
  4. Check that the location is htdocs/custom/doligenweb (not htdocs/custom/htdocs/doligenweb).
  5. Enable the module from Dolibarr.
