But if you made some custom modifications in the core or use external modules not yet compatible with recent versions, upgrade will overwrite your custom changes or may make old modules not working anymore. For such cases, you can get contractual support for LTS from some open source companies (Some integrators and some Saas hosting services provide such a support).
